Terms of use
Plain terms for downloading and using Pathfinder. No surprises buried in the fine print.
Last updated 17 August 2026.
Using Pathfinder
Pathfinder is a desktop browser you download and run on your own computer. Pathfinder is free to download and use for personal or business purposes. Some features may require a paid licence; where one applies, the app says so before you are asked to pay. You are responsible for how you use it and for complying with the terms of the websites and services you sign into through it.
What you may and may not do
We give you a personal, non-exclusive licence to install and use Pathfinder on computers you control, for as long as these terms are kept. Pathfinder is ours: downloading it does not transfer ownership of the software, its name, or its design, and we keep every right not given to you here.
Please do not resell or redistribute Pathfinder, rent or share a paid licence key with people outside your household or organisation, work around the licensing or feature checks or help others do so, remove our branding and pass the result off as your own, or use Pathfinder to break the law or someone else's rights. You may of course inspect, debug, and take apart the copy on your machine where the law gives you that right, and nothing here is meant to stop you.
Paying for Pathfinder
If you buy a paid licence, payment is handled by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record. They take the payment, handle sales tax and VAT, and issue your receipt, so your card details never reach us. Their terms cover the transaction itself.
A subscription renews automatically at the price shown when you bought it, until you cancel renewal. You can cancel renewal at any time from the receipt or account link Lemon Squeezy emails you, and you keep the paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for. We will not raise the price of a running subscription without telling you first and giving you a chance to cancel the renewal.
If Pathfinder is not what you expected, ask us within 14 days of buying and we will refund you. This sits alongside your rights under consumer law rather than replacing them, and it does not affect the refunds we commit to if we stop developing Pathfinder.
The software is provided as is
Pathfinder is provided without warranty of any kind. We work to make it stable and reliable, but we cannot guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not liable for any loss arising from its use, to the extent the law allows. Where we are liable despite that, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for Pathfinder in the 12 months before the problem arose.
None of that displaces rights you have under consumer law that cannot be signed away. If you are a consumer in New Zealand, the Consumer Guarantees Act gives you guarantees we cannot contract out of, and consumer law where you live may do the same. Nothing on this page limits those rights, and where a line here conflicts with them, your rights win.
Updates
Pathfinder can update itself to newer versions. Updates may add, change, or remove features. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the version you are running.
We may stop developing Pathfinder
Pathfinder is made by a very small team, and we cannot promise to update, support, or keep publishing it forever. Nothing in these terms obliges us to release new versions, fix problems, or keep the app working with any particular website, service, or version of Windows. We may change, pause, or stop development, and stop offering downloads, at any time.
If that happens, the copy on your machine keeps working. Pathfinder runs locally: it does not need our servers to start, to open your apps, or to reach the accounts you are signed into, and your profiles and settings are ordinary folders and files on your own PC. Nothing switches off because we stopped.
Paid features are the exception, because they check a licence from time to time. If we ever shut that service down, we will stop charging for Pathfinder, and we will take reasonable steps to leave paid features working on machines that already have them, such as releasing a final version that no longer performs the check.
If Pathfinder changes hands
We may sell or transfer Pathfinder, or the business behind it, to someone else. If that happens, these terms and any licence you hold carry over to the new owner, who takes on the same obligations to you that we have here. Your accounts and data stay where they have always been, on your own machine. Anything we hold about you, which is only ever what the Privacy Policy describes, would transfer with the rest of the business and stays covered by that policy.
Your accounts and data
Your logins and browsing data stay on your machine. You are responsible for keeping your device secure and for backing up anything you would not want to lose. See our Privacy page for how data is handled.
Third-party services
Websites and services you access through Pathfinder are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Pathfinder is a way to reach them; it is not a party to your relationship with them.
Third-party components
Pathfinder is built on Electron and the Chromium engine, and it uses ad and tracker filter lists published by Ghostery. Those components belong to their authors and are covered by their own licences, which continue to apply to them inside Pathfinder. The Electron and Chromium licence notices are included in the installed app.
Ending a licence
You can stop using Pathfinder whenever you like: uninstall it, and if you are on a subscription, cancel its renewal. We may end a paid licence if it is being used against the rules above, such as a key shared publicly or a purchase reversed after the fact. We would contact you first wherever it is reasonable to do so, and ending a licence returns the app to the free tier rather than stopping it working.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated over time. The current version is always the one posted on this page, with the date it changed shown at the top. If a change materially reduces what you get, we will say so rather than quietly reposting the page.
If part of these terms does not hold
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, that part is treated as removed and the rest still applies. Not enforcing something straight away does not mean we have given it up.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of New Zealand, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer somewhere else, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer law where you live, or your right to bring a claim in your local courts where that law says you can.
